WOYZECK by Büchner
WOYZECK (1837), an unfinished play by Georg Büchner, is a real tragedy rooted in everyday life. Its main character, Woyzeck, is a poor soldier on the fringes of society. Used as a guinea pig in a medical experiment, humiliated by his superiors and betrayed by his wife, he is gradually rejected by the world around him. This drama shows everything that can drive a human being to become violent, even murderous. Ultimately, Woyzeck is both victim and executioner. Büchner's empathy with ordinary people arouses the audience's compassion and prompts them to reflect. A phrase from Woyzeck perfectly illustrates the depth of the work: ‘Every human being is an abyss that makes you dizzy when you look into it’.
